Fundamentals of the Esoteric Philosophy
by G de Purucker
From 1924 to 1927 Katherine Tingley sponsored a series of private studies in The Secret Doctrine, with Dr. de Purucker as lecturer. This record of the meetings provides an excellent introduction to H. P. Blavatsky’s masterwork, yet it stands on its own as a clear restatement of the philosophy expounded by all great thinkers and sages.
Beginning with the three fundamental postulates of The Secret Doctrine, the presentation moves to cosmic and human evolution, with emphasis on the interconnectedness of all beings. Other topics include man’s nature and destiny; avataras and buddhas; initiation, the Mysteries, and ethical values.
By the time the reader closes FUNDAMENTALS, he has a comprehensive outline of the principles on which the theosophy of both ancient and modern time rests. Those interested in comparative religion will find a wealth of testimony supporting the view that the wisdom-tradition of antiquity was once “the common inheritance of mankind.”
The author makes clear that these lectures “are not for purposes of intellectual study only, or to amuse ourselves with abstruse or mystic knowledge”; rather, he stresses, that altruism and the living up to one’s highest aspirations is the first step to knowledge and human betterment.”
